今天我们将继续分享“简单地看或看到某物”的各种常见表达。

1) One of the most common ways to describe shortsightedness is the word "glance". If you glance at someone or something, you look at them briefly and then look away (a quick glance):

他看了一眼手表,弯下腰。(他看了看表,站了起来。)

A range of prepositions may be used after 'glance'. For example, you might glance around a room or glance up from your book.

Glance is also a noun:

She glanced in his direction before she walked away. She glanced at him and then walked away. )

If you sneak a glance at someone or something, you look at them quickly and secretly (sneak a glance):

当她的包打开时,我偷偷看了一眼里面的东西。(当她的包被打开时,我偷看了里面的东西。)

2)Peep and peek are words with very similar meanings. Both convey a short search time, usually from somewhere behind or through a hole. They suggest that onlookers don't want others to notice that they are watching (peeking; Peep):

She peeked at them through the fence. She looked at them through the fence. )

I saw him peeking through the curtains. I found him peeping through the curtains. )

3) A glimpse is a word of "seeing briefly". If you catch a glimpse of something, what you see is very short-lived and sometimes only partial. For example, you may catch a glimpse of something from a car or train. Take a look):

我们开车经过时,我瞥见了远处的城堡。(我们的车经过时,我远远地瞥了一眼城堡。)

The noun 'glimpse' is also used, often after the verb 'catch':

当他们飞驰而过时,我只瞥见了那辆汽车。)

The adjective fleeting often comes before 'glimpse' to emphasize how short the glimpse is:

我匆匆看了一眼她的裙子。)

4) Aside from the word "look briefly", spot is a useful verb. If you find something-usually something useful-you will notice it, usually after deliberately looking at it. Found):

如果你发现任何错误,一定要让我知道。(如果发现什么错误,一定要告诉我。)

I think I saw Ben in the crowd. I think I recognized Ben in the crowd. )

In UK English, people often say well spotted to someone who has noticed or found something useful:

'Hey, I've just found your glasses under the table.' 'Ah, well spotted!'

“哎!我刚刚在桌子底下发现了你的眼镜。”“啊,这些你都找到了!”

5) Sometimes you will see (or half see) something you don't see directly. In this regard, you can say what you see out of the corner of your eye:

I was watching TV when I saw something moving out of the corner of my eye. I was watching TV when I caught sight of something moving. )
